Growing since
1987
Apple Creek was founded by John and Rosalyn Driedger. John grew up in his family’s Patmore Nurseries in Manitoba, Canada, where he learned a lasting emphasis on quality, cold-hardy plant material. He and Rosalyn carried that standard when they set out to find ground that could produce trees and shrubs tough enough for the harsh conditions of the interior western U.S. and Canada.
They found that ground in Bonners Ferry. The nursery began in 1987 as a bare root grower of shade trees on 80 acres of the former Levig Nursery, then grew to include containerized and balled and burlapped stock. Today it spans about 120 acres, with temperature and humidity controlled cold storage that keeps bare root trees and shrubs in peak condition after harvest.
Four decades on, Apple Creek is known across the interior West for a carefully selected, improved product line, and for a signature peony program that buyers return for season after season.

The next
chapter
Apple Creek is now a division of Outdoor by Design, the nursery and landscaping company founded in 2008 by Travis and Laree Liermann, who were born and raised in Boundary County, Idaho. After years of buying Apple Creek stock for their own landscape projects, they were asked by John and Rosalyn to carry the nursery forward, and they said yes.
Very little changes and a lot gets better. The same growing location, the same crew, and the same standards stay in place, with John and Rosalyn Driedger helping guide the transition. What is new is reach: Apple Creek buyers now also gain the larger, field-grown balled and burlapped trees that Outdoor by Design raises with extra space and time at its Naples nursery.
The Liermanns run it the way they have always worked, with integrity and a real understanding of what performs in this climate. Off the clock, you will find the whole family together in the North Idaho outdoors they grow for.
